Encrypted Scriptures

Release: 23rd MARCH 2009

A new name to home grown hip-hop, JYAGER is here for the long haul. Take a rapid-fire flow and mix it with equal parts of intellectual lyrics and bilingual diversions, and you have an emcee ready to bring something extremely different to the table. After sharpening his teeth on the north London garage scene, the ferocious spitter moved away from his early musical penchant towards hip-hop, where he found his calling.

With Encrypted Scriptures, JYAGER has carved a poignant welcoming bricolage in to the music game. The Portuguese originating emcee demonstrates a refreshing, youthful hunger on his debut long player, complementing the mature, time-honoured production of CEE WHY. With the instrumentation on the album entirely crafted by CEE WHY (previously building beats for the likes of KLASHNEKOFF, JEHST and YUNGUN), the album has a cohesion that many modern rap albums lack.

From the rugged harsh soundscape of ‘Eyes Open’ to the smooth vibes of the closer ‘Didn’t’ Wanna Have To Do It’, JYAGER demonstrates the full panorama of his vocal potential. The FOREIGN BEGGARS and KASHMERE lend their trademark vocals to the banging posee cut of ‘Frozen in The Night’, and homegrown hero (and not forgetting YNR head-honcho) JEHST murders a verse on the infectious groove of ‘The Session’. The lazily smooth sounds of ‘Seconds Hours and Minutes’ play the perfect instrumentation for the lyrical imagery of JYAGER and guest emcees VERB T and KYZA.

With albums from JEHST, MICALL PARKNSUN and VERB T to follow, YNR is headed for a mammoth year, maintaining their position as one of the most consistent labels in the country.
